Carta de Francisco Ayala a Lee C. Deighton (22/04/1965)

April 22, 1965

Mr. Lee C. Deighton,

President

The Macmillan Co.

60 Fifth Ave.

New York 11, N.Y.

Dear Mr. Deighton:

I was pleased to see in last Sunday's issue of The New York Times Book Review the half-page advertisement you placed there for your translation of a book by my dear colleague and friend, Ana María Matute. However, it also increased my puzzlement about the contrastingly shabby treatment Macmillan's gave a year ago to the edition of my book Death as a Way of Life, despite the excellent critical reception it had.

In your letter of June 2, 1964, you told me that you intended to ask Mr. Goldman, the manager of your Trade Marketting Division [sic], to write to me concerning plans for a paperback edition of Death, supposedly in order to remedy the results of your company’s poor initial performance in the marketting [sic] of the book. Until now, I have not had a word aboutd [sic] that. May I know whether something has been done about the matter?

Thank you very much for your attention.

Yours very truly,

Francisco Ayala,

54 W. 16th Street,

New York 11, N.Y.
